- Explore your Life Grid — see your entire life as a visual timeline of years.
- Add your first memory — tap any past day to create a journal entry.
- Add rich media — include photos, videos, and audio to make memories vivid.
- Enable backups — create manual backups in Settings to keep your data safe.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I add a journal entry?
Tap any year box on your Life Overview screen, then tap a past day (colored days have entries, gray days are empty), then tap the "+" button to add a new memory. Fill in your memory details and tap Save.
Can I add multiple entries for the same day?
Yes. You can add multiple memories for any day. Each entry can have its own photos, videos, audio, and text.
How do I backup my data?
Go to Settings → Backup & Restore → Export Data to manually save your journal as a backup file. You can restore from these backups anytime. Smart backup reminders help you remember to backup regularly, but all backups are manual — you choose when to save your data.
What is Daily Inspiration?
Every day, MyLife: Timeline Journal shows you one quote or verse for reflection. Choose from 6 categories: Bible Verses (2,920 verses across 8 themes), Wisdom & Philosophy, Motivational, Family & Love, Courage & Resilience, and Success & Leadership. Mix and match any categories you like — all content works completely offline. Go to Settings → Daily Inspiration to customise your preferences.
What is Family Archives?
Family Archives lets you honor loved ones who have passed away. Create a separate timeline for them, document their lives, add photos and memories, and preserve their legacy for future generations.
What is Life Battery?
Life Battery shows your remaining life as an iPhone-style segmented battery. You'll see your current age, years remaining, and a percentage charged. You can also add family members — each gets their own card with name, relationship, age, and battery. Tap the + button to add a member, fill in their name, birthday, relationship, and optionally upload a profile photo. If a family member has passed away, toggle "In Memory" and record their date of passing — their battery will show 0% as a respectful tribute. Access Life Battery from Settings → Features → Life Battery.
How do notifications work?
There are two notification systems. The In-App Notification Center (tap the bell icon at the top of your Timeline) shows a feed of On This Day memories, Anniversaries, Letters Arrived, Backup Overdue reminders, and Daily Inspiration previews. System Notifications are standard iOS alerts you control in Settings → Notifications, covering journal reminders, Daily Inspiration, milestone anniversaries, backup reminders, and Letters to Future Self delivery alerts.
Is my data private?
Yes. All your data stays on your device. We don't collect, track, analyze, or share any of your information — no analytics, no tracking, no data transmission. See our Privacy Policy for complete details.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Go to Settings → Backup & Restore → Export Data to save a complete manual backup of all your memories, photos, and videos. Keep these backup files in a safe location.
Why can't I see future days?
You can only add entries for past days. This keeps your journal authentic and prevents pre-dated entries. Today and future days unlock as time progresses.
How do I edit or delete an entry?
Tap any entry to view it, then tap the "Edit" button in the top right. You can modify any details or delete the entry entirely.
Does the app work offline?
Yes. MyLife: Timeline Journal works 100% offline. No internet connection required.
How do I change my birth date or expected age?
Go to Settings → Life Parameters. You can adjust your birth date and expected age, which updates your Life Grid accordingly.

Troubleshooting
The app shows an error screen and won't open my journal
If MyLife: Timeline Journal shows a recovery screen instead of your journal, your data is still on your device — nothing has been deleted. This can happen after a phone crash or power loss during a write. The recovery screen gives you three options:
- Email Support with Log — the best first step. It opens a pre-written email with a diagnostic log already attached. The log contains only technical error codes, no journal entries or personal data.
- Restore from Backup — if you have a
.mylifebackupfile saved in Files, AirDrop, email, or elsewhere, you can restore all your data right from this screen. - Start Fresh — deletes all data and starts a clean journal. Only do this if support has confirmed your data cannot be recovered. This cannot be undone.
Email us at mylifetimelinejournal@gmail.com before choosing "Start Fresh" — we may be able to help you recover your data.
App crashes or freezes
Force quit the app and reopen it. Restart your device. Make sure you're running the latest version of iOS. If the problem persists, contact support with details about when the crash occurs.
Photos/videos not appearing
Go to iPhone Settings → MyLife: Timeline Journal → Photos → Select "All Photos". The app needs permission to access your photo library.
Can't record audio
Go to iPhone Settings → MyLife: Timeline Journal → Microphone → Enable. The app needs microphone permission to record audio notes.
Notifications not appearing
Go to iPhone Settings → MyLife: Timeline Journal → Notifications → Enable "Allow Notifications". In the app, go to Settings → Notifications and enable the notifications you want. Make sure Do Not Disturb or Focus modes aren't blocking notifications, and restart the app after changing notification settings.
Daily Inspiration not updating
Daily Inspiration updates automatically at midnight. Make sure your device date/time is set correctly (Settings → General → Date & Time), force quit and reopen the app, and check that Daily Inspiration is enabled with at least one category selected in Settings → Daily Inspiration.
Location tags not working
Go to iPhone Settings → MyLife: Timeline Journal → Location → Select "While Using the App". Location is only accessed when creating or editing entries.
Purchase not restoring / paywall showing after purchase
Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID you used to purchase, then go to Settings in the app and tap "Restore Purchases". Wait a few moments for verification. If it's still showing the paywall, restart the app. Contact support if the issue persists — we'll help resolve it quickly.

- Add milestones in Settings → Features → Milestones — every anniversary, a story card appears in your Timeline as a reminder.
- Write a letter to future self in Settings → Letters to Future Self for a date one, five, or ten years away.
- Back up regularly — when the Smart Backup prompt appears, tap Save; it takes one tap and saves to On My iPhone automatically.
- Customise Daily Inspiration in Settings → Daily Inspiration to pick categories that resonate with you.
- Add rich media — memories with photos, videos, and audio are more vivid and lasting.
- Use location tags to remember where special moments happened years later.
- Review your year in Settings → Features → Year in Review for a swipeable summary of any year or month.
- Set up Life Battery in Settings → Features → Life Battery and add your family members with photos and relationships — it's a one-time setup that stays forever.
